Weekly Pinterest DIY Favorites

I decided to post a few of my fave Pinterest DIY finds every week.  Well... if I can limit it to just once a week!  ; )

This vintage tray cart  is adorable!  I love the way she painted them!  They were rusty looking trays and she transformed them into a beautiful shelf!  Brilliant!  Find her post here!

How about this old book, turned picture frame?  I love it!

These are typical rubber outdoor mats in a lovely color!  So simple yet such a huge difference!  I believe these came this color but any of us could get the same look with our favorite color of spray paint!

This bathmat idea was very clever!  I'm planning on doing this very soon since I already have the same bathmats!

This awesome crate table is on sale at etsy but I think I can do something similar.  I'm excited to try someday!

This cornice stopped my heart for a bit!  It's an idea she got from another blogger Lemonade Makin' Mama who made the sign from old barnwood.  She took it one step further and turned it into a gorgeous cornice!

This blog has some beautiful photos of repurposed doors.  One of my favorite looks!  I love the idea of suspending the door for a table.  I wonder how well it would work with little kids though. LOL!

Goodwill Hunting and Undeserved Blessings

I was on my way to Costco today and ended up making a detour to the Goodwill in Capitola.  While this Goodwill normally has some cute clothes, they don't carry much furniture.  Here are a couple of photos of a fairly uneventful thrift day.  (insert sobs here)

This cute little luggage holder was only $5.25!  I was so tempted, but it would have ended up sitting in storage until we have a house.

These little bears were really sweet.  I tried to sell my daughter on them since she was insisting upon buying a beanie baby.  She ended up getting a little black cat.  Oh well.

This top was adorable but the sleeves were just a bit too, ahem, snug on my arms (it's all the spinach eating and weight lifting that I participate in... LOL).  My sister ended up with it!  Lucky, skinny her.  I mean that in the most loving way possible.

No jokes about the phone either!  Two more months, people.  Two more months 'til I get my free SMART PHONE!  Woo hoo!

On another note, I've doubled my "followers" overnight thanks to my last posting!  I now have, not 2 followers... but 4 followers!  Ha, ha, ha!  Thanks Mom and Diana!  LOL!  But seriously, thanks to everyone who reads my blog.  It really encourages me and blows my mind away that I have so many people reading already!

It's a really enjoyable hobby that I'm beginning to appreciate so much.  Sometimes I feel discouraged that I am unable to decorate a home of my own, but I know that it's all in God's timing and that I will appreciate our house so much more when we finally have it.

When I owned my townhouse (before I quit my job back in 2006) I kind of took it for granted.  I mean, I was only 27 when I bought it.  That's probably why I didn't think much of it.  I didn't really feel the need to cry out to God.  But now, after the struggles that my husband and I went through and are still recovering from, I know that I'll be able to see things for what they truly are.  An undeserved blessing.

'Til then, I have Pinterest. ; )

Please "Follow Me"

By the way, please become a "follower" if you have been reading regularly.
I added it to my side bar recently!  Thanks!

Thrift Shopping

My mom, my daughter and I took a trip to the Salvation Army in Gilroy yesterday.  Let me just say, I have never come home empty handed after visiting that particular store.  It has some really great stuff and some really great deals.  The last few times I had gone it just so happened that I had gone on "50% off everything" days!  Unfortunately yesterday was not one of those days.  I bought 2 tank tops, a shirt for my hubby and 3 books though!

I did want to share a few photos of the furniture that I spied though!  If I already had a house and I had gone on a "50% off furniture" day, you bet I would have taken these pieces home!  A few coats of paint and these babies would have been gorgeous!!!  I apologize for the low quality photos.  I left my camera in the car and was too lazy to walk out and get it!

The Hall Tree:

Isn't it amazing?  Of course, you have to imagine it painted in a beautiful color, such as turquoise or green!  It would have a similar vibe as this one found at Centsational Girl's blog.

The Armoire:

I thought this armoire would be fabulous if it were spruced up with a nice bright color!  It would make a lovely dresser!

Just put some nice baskets inside for your sweaters and you're in business!

The Computer Desk:

Oh my!  This baby had a charging station, a sliding keyboard holder, a filing cabinet (w/key) and plenty of space for all the needs of a desktop computer, printer, etc.  I think this would have been gorgeous painted any color!

Just close the accordion doors and you have a lovely piece of furniture... with no ugly computer to have to look at!

The Bar/Desk:

This particular piece was my favorite!  My mom said it was a bar, which makes perfect sense.  However, for those of us who have no need for a bar, I think this would have made a wonderful desk!

It doesn't look like much upon first glance, but check out all the bells and whistles!

(Yes, I know I look like a dork in that mirror.)

Don't mind the child inside of the lower cabinets!

Look at that built in organization!  I love it!  Some people love clothing... I love organization "tools!"

You know it was a quality piece if it's an Ethan Allen!

I guess this is where you would store all the cups, spoons, etc.  My hubby suggested putting cups with art utensils for a child's art station!  Brilliant!

It certainly needed some love.. new paint and new pulls, but I think it would be fabulous after some attention.  I seriously stood in front of it for quite a while.  I kept going back too.

The China Cabinet:

A very beautiful cabinet as is, but it would be grand with some color!  Such as:

This painted cabinet that Bob Vila redid:

Or this China cabinet turned Library from French Country Cottage:

A dessert bar from Frog Prince Paperie:

Or storage for items such as fabric like this one (not sure where it originated from but I got it from Pinterest):

I think China Cabinets are one of the most versatile pieces of furniture out there.  Especially if you love to repurpose!

Here are a few other fun finds from Salvation Army:

A quick spray of paint and this lamp would have been great!

This book was hilarious!

After a fun day thrifting, we stopped at our favorite fast food joint!

A great trip!

Catching up on Croissants

My little one has been sick all weekend so I have been home today taking care of her and catching up on laundry... and croissants.

Dinner for Two

My niece and my daughter are best friends.  They're 4 1/2 months apart and they are inseparable.  Here is a photo of my niece eating dinner with "cousin."  That's in quotations because my daughter wasn't actually there.  My sister says that she now has to set a place at the table for her invisible cousin!  Apparently her invisible cousin gets to use the potty first so she has to wait her turn.  LOL!

Man, that's gonna get old fast!  ; P

It's the Little Things in Life

Why am I cheesing it up and taking a photo of myself
in front of my shower curtain?

Because of my cute new shoes!  I wore them to work today and got some nice compliments.  $20 bucks at Kohl's, thank you very much!  :)

Leaves

I was looking up at this tree the other day and I was reminded of a precious thing my daughter said a few months back.  She said, "Trees are the leaves home!"  I guess that's true!  It takes a child to think that up!

She's Crafty

That's the name of my board on Pinterest.  I'm one of those people who has hopes of being an arts and crafts type of person.  The problem is... I'm not.

Well, my sister and I have been trying to change our ways and become a little more like my mom, who happens to be a quilter extraordinaire.  All of our lives she has been into the stuff that Diana and I have finally begun to take an interest in.  Hopefully we can make her proud.

While snooping around Michael's the other day, we came across this collection of craft eye candy!

Let me tell you now, this line is exactly what we've been looking for!  It's not your 70's needle point, that's for certain!  We had just been talking about taking up something simple like cross stitching, when we rounded the corner and found Dimensions Handmade Embroidery Kits.  Our eyes lit up like two super stylish (LOL) rookie crafters in a sea of skilled masters.  Something we might be able to do AND feel proud of in the end?!?  Yes, please!  Something we'd actually hang up in our homes or throw on our sofas to be seen by people other than us!  Yes, please!  What a concept!

All the talk about taking up a craft that would help us decompress at the end of a crazy day might just be more than talk!  I'm planning on ordering a couple very soon!

I love this Mother Teresa kit!  I found it for cheap here.

The same with this cute little bird!  Found at the same place.

And this masterpiece!  Found here.

So my plans to stretch my craftiness from nada to un poco mas que nada, are underway and promised to you!  Now it has to be done!

OH!  And to add crafty joy to everyone's day, we have a Hobby Lobby coming to Morgan Hill!  Sure, it's 45 mins away from me, but hey!  It's closer than Texas (that's where I was first introduced)!  I almost spun my Honda around until I noticed that it wasn't even open yet!  Exciting times, people!  Exciting times!

Discovery Kingdom and Unpacking

Am I the last person to know about this place?

Ok, so I went there when I was a teenager, but I do not remember it being this awesome!
If you went everyday for a week straight you still probably wouldn't have been able
to catch all the cool shows and exhibits!

I mean, come on, my daughter got to feed the giraffes!!!

I see I'm not the only one who gets caught making ridiculous faces on camera!

But seriously, you can feed the elephants for free!

Anyone who wanted to come up and pet Liz was free to do so!

Liz was such a good sport!  What a beautiful creature!

This tiger tried to eat my niece twice, but who's counting?

We even met a celebrity!  This is Jocko, from 50 First Dates!

He luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvs kids!  He followed the little ones around and
would place his forehead against the glass.  It was adorable!  I didn't think
it was possible to fall in love at first sight.  But we all did!

I cannot wait to go back to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom!

We spent the following day unpacking my sister's family's belongings at their new place.  I made sure the girls worked just as hard today as they played yesterday!

There's a lot more to do!
